Bail Increased for Man Suspected of Shooting Brother

The arraignment for Sean Alexander Kent was postponed until March 1.

An arraignment for a Walnut man arrested for allegedly shooting his brother in the leg during an argument has been postponed until March 1.

Sean Alexander Kent, 40, appeared in Pomona Superior Court this morning on a felony charge of attempted murder and for violating probation regarding a prior misdemeanor unrelated to the shooting.

Kent was expected to formerly hear the charges against him and to enter a plea, but it was pushed back.  The judge and attorneys involved in the case did not give a reason for the delay.

Commissioner Wade Olson revoked Kent’s misdemeanor probation on a previous case and set bail at $25,000 for that charge.  He increased the bail amount to $115,000 from $50,000 on the charge of attempted murder.

Vincent Milone, the public defender representing Kent, said the state had offered the defendant a plea deal to serve eight years and asked Olson that the option be kept open for now.  The commissioner agreed.

Kent was arrested at 11:15 p.m. Feb. 15 in the 300 block of South Prospero Drive in West Covina after a patrol officer recognized his vehicle based on a special bulletin the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s station distributed to local law enforcement agencies after the shooting.

At just after 2 p.m. Feb. 14, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a family disturbance and a shooting in the 19800 block of Vista Hermosa Drive.  Deputies arrived and found that the 43-year-old victim had been shot in the leg during an argument, authorities said.

Kent, who the suspect identified as his brother, had fled the scene before deputies arrived.  The victim’s injury was not considered life threatening.  He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

After his arrest, Kent was transferred to the Walnut/Diamond Bar station where he was booked on one count of assault with a deadly weapon with a firearm. He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.
