Five Fun – And Cheap – Valentine’s Day Dates in Walnut
Long on romance but short on cash? Try these date suggestions.
Heck, anyone can buy jewelry or make reservations to a fancy restaurant.
This Valentine’s Day, why don’t you be the one that makes the date fun, creative and, best of all, right in your neighborhood?
Here are five ideas for a fun date on Feb. 14th:
Walnut Ranch Park
The park has some of the best hiking trails in the area, so you can start with a quick nature hike. Then, a turn in the playground of this, or any neighborhood park, will bring back the kid in everyone. Pair this with either a little picnic of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit and juice in a brown paper bag with your dates’ name on it and it’ll be just like the fourth grade again – when a simple slug on the arm meant “I like you a lot.”
Chocolate Truffles and Shakes
Chocolate, in any form, is a perfect go-to gift on Valentine’s Day. Ciel’s Chocolatier in Walnut (20615 E. Valley Blvd. Unit D, Walnut) is known for its unique truffles, made with champagne or fruit and even one piece of their chocolate is a decadent little gift. Or, how about driving through your favorite fast food place, grabbing a chocolate shake and then taking a walk around your neighborhood, holding hands? Awwwww…
Home-cooked meal
Ask your mom or grandma for her favorite recipe. Make a grocery list and take your date to Fresh and Easy in Industry, or any local grocery store to buy the ingredients for the perfect meal. Then go home and cook together. And yeah, don’t forget to put dessert on your list too.
Facebook and Twitter-pated
If you can’t be together on Valentine’s Day, have a cyber date. First of all, post a cute picture of the two of you on Facebook and write an open love note to your significant other. That way, everyone from her mom to her co-workers to her friend from high school will you how you feel. Twitter to let her know that she ought to give Facebook a quick look. Then, spend some quality time on Skype…just the two of you.
Shop Fun and Frugal
Set a limit, like $10, and see what kind of creative and heartfelt gifts you can find. Anywhere from TJ Maxx to the local gas station mini-mart will have fun items that will show your significant other that you’ve been paying attention. Maybe he needs new sunglasses, but not fancy ones because he always loses them. Perhaps you tap into her secret love for the Backstreet Boys and you find a CD in the bargain bin. Ten dollars worth of Lotto Scratchers anyone?
